President’s Message

Welcome to the 2012 - 2013 chapter year.  As I wrote my final message in April, I would have never dreamed I would be writing the opening 2012 - 2013 President's message!  I truly appreciate the confidence you have placed in me to serve as your President for a second term and will make every effort to exceed your expectations.

I'd like to take a moment to recognize our accomplishments from this past year.  At ANI in Las Vegas, our chapter received awards for Excellence in Education, Yerger awards for Region 2, outstanding performance in Education and Collaboration.  We also received a Hottum award for education performance improvement.  Congratulations to all who participated in making last year so successful.

National's HFMA Chair, Ralph Lawson's, theme this year is "Leadership Matters".  Today, healthcare finance leaders have a responsibility to guide others who are searching for solutions to the healthcare cost challenge.  You have the knowledge, passion, and creativity that it takes.  Who better to lead this effort?  The Inuits of the Arctic wanted to guide others whose survival depended on traveling safely through cold, featureless terrain where it was easy to get lost.  They built massive stone structures called inukshuks, which are depicted in Ralph Lawson's theme, to show others the way.  It is vital we share solutions that work and HFMA provides the perfect forum for that.

HFMA leadership is busy preparing the calendar for 2012 - 2013.  Our chapter goal this year is to bring you high quality, up to date and useful education programming.  The education committee is currently planning our Fall Institute; stay tuned for further information as it gets closer.

If you are not one of our many volunteers already, I invite you to join / participate / contribute - whatever and however you can.  Opportunities are plentiful and there are no minimal requirements.  Whatever you can offer will be sincerely valued and appreciated.

Do not hesitate to contact me directly with your comments, concerns, and interests.  I would enjoy hearing from you.  Looking forward to an exciting year!  Thank you.
