HFMA Certification Exams

Need a little help preparing for the HFMA Certification Exams?  When you're ready to take the next step, the Certification Committee is here to help!  If you're already certified and want to help others attain this status, we'd love to have you join us!

Core and Specialty Exam Information

If you've been thinking about becoming Certified, the Certification Committee would like to hear from you.  We'll start planning for 2008 very soon and need to know how many folks would be interested in a Spring coaching course for the exam.  We'd also like to hear from anyone planning to take one of the specialty exams.  Please let us know which exam you'll be taking, and if you think you'll need some help to prepare for the exam.  While it's doubtful we'd be able to offer a coaching course for each specialty, the Committee will do some brainstorming around this and see how we might be able to assist you.

HFMA Certification Committee Survey:
 2007 / 2008 Certification Survey

August 6, 2007

Dear HFMA Member:

The Rochester Regional HFMA chapter is currently enrolling individuals for the 2007 Fall Coaching course for the Core Exam.  These courses are designed to assist you in taking the first step to becoming a Certified Financial Healthcare Professional.

As a member of HFMA, you have an opportunity to enhance your professional development while at the same time networking with other healthcare professionals.  The certification process is designed for those individuals who are willing to put forth that special effort to achieve an accepted standard of excellence.  We encourage you to begin your pursuit of excellence and certified status.

In order to become certified you must successfully complete 2 exams, the Core Exam and one of four specialty exams in the areas of: Accounting and Finance, Patient Financial Services, Management of Physician Practices, and Managed Care.  The exam questions are based on materials in the HFMA study guide.  We encourage you to participate in this coaching course that is taught by local professionals and provides practical advice to passing the exam, however you may also choose to self-study.

Proctored internet-based testing is used for all exams and are scheduled immediately following the coaching courses.  Beginning in 2007, we will be offering 3 separate testing dates, and up to 3 separate testing locations for your convenience.

The HFMA national website outlines all of the certification requirements.  As it generally takes a year to complete both exams, we encourage our members to begin this process as soon as possible.  Why should you become certified?
